About our Staff

Felidae Centre was founded in September of 2010 by siblings Chriszanne and Nicol Burger. The two are truly passionate about their work with African predator animals and constantly fight for the survival of these awesome species. Project management and staff literally eat, sleep and breathe Felidae Centre. Every effort is made in order to ensure it success for future generations

The project is situated on family grounds and is run by the Burger family. A piece of land was given to Felidae by the Burger parents to start off and soon they expanded to a successful project expanding and helping animals daily.

CHRISZANNE BURGER

Studied nature conservation through UNISA but decided to start Felidae in 2010 after she had worked for almost a year on a very similar project. During her studies she have volunteers at several organizations and projects and gain experiences on working with all wildlife in different situations and areas. She always was passionate about animals and the conservation and growing up on a sheep farm the love for farm and outdoor was growing in her from a young age. Running the daily activities on the project and working with the volunteers daily in make sure that each animal on Felidae will be receiving the necessary care and attention needed.

Nicol Burger SNR

Studied animal healthy at Grootfontein Agricultural college and started off as an animal health inspector, but soon realize that the farm life is calling and started a successful sheep farming on a family farm outside of Kimberley. Currently he is helping with building and maintenance on Felidae to keep the enclosures in good shape and driving for lion food around Kimberley and neighboring towns.

TERCIA BURGER

Started her career in banking soon after she left school and after 42 years of banking and accounting experience, she joined Felidae to run the admin and accounting.  Tercia will answer all you question while you are on or of the premises and will assist future volunteers with bookings and arrangements.

Marnix Rutten

A dedicated former volunteer from the Netherlands, Marnix Rutten returned to work at Felidae Centre after completing his Tourism degree at Wageningen University & Research (WUR). He shares his expertise by conducting volunteer training and guiding tours for visitors. Additionally, Marnix assists with daily tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of Felidae centre

Micheal Louw

He comes from a small neighboring town and works during the week with helping in preparing food for all our animals and cleaning the enclosures and the visiting areas. Michael assists with all the slaughtering and cutting of Carcasses and keeping our cold rooms clean and tidy

Patricia Kantwane

Stays in the same neighboring town as Michael and assist us every week to make sure that the volunteer accommodation is clean and tidy. She is willing to jump in and assist with any task.
